Ph.D., 1998, M.S., 1988, B.S., 1986, Electrical Engineering, The University of Kansas Luiz A. DaSilva joined Virginia Tech’s Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1998, where he is now an Associate Professor. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Kansas and previously worked for IBM for six years. Dr. DaSilva's research interests focus on performance and resource management in wireless mobile networks and Quality of Service (QoS) issues. He is currently involved in funded research projects in the areas of QoS interoperability and policy-based network management, application of game theory to model mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs), heterogeneous MANETs employing smart antennas, and pervasive computing, among others. Dr. DaSilva has published over forty refereed papers in journals and major conferences in the communications and computer areas. Current and recent research sponsors include NSF, the Office of Naval Research, the U.S. Customs Services, Intel, and Microsoft Research, among others. He is a member of the Center for Wireless Communications (CWT), associated faculty at the Mobile and Portable Radio Research Group (MPRG), and a member of the Governing Board of the NSF-funded Integrated Research and Education in Advanced Networking (IREAN) program at Virginia Tech. Dr. DaSilva is a senior member of IEEE, a member of ASEE, and a past recipient of the ASEE/IEEE Frontiers in Education New Faculty Fellow award. He frequently teaches distance and distributed courses on network architecture and protocols and on mobile and wireless networking.

Parviz Ghandforoush is Professor of Business Information Technology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). He received the Ph.D. in Management Science at Texas Tech University, MBA at the University of Texas in Austin, and B.S. Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Ghandforoush has over 25 years of research, teaching, administrative, and professional experience in information technology and management science and is the co-author of the textbook Management Science for Decision Makers. He has published in refereed academic and professional publications in the areas of decision and optimization models, decision support systems in complex environments, sequencing and scheduling, staffing models, and simulation of organizational operations. His research has appeared in such journals as, Computers & Operational Research, Journal on Computing, Decision Support Systems, Journal of Systems Management, International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Industrial Engineering Transactions, European Journal of Operations Research, The International Journal of Management Science, Naval Research Logistics, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Computers & Information Sciences, Computers & Industrial Engineering, and others. He has extensive involvement in professional development, consulting and research activities in areas of executive decision models, efficiency models and optimization, strategic implications of information technology, decision support systems, and electronic commerce. Parviz Ghandforoush is the Managing Director of the Master of Information Technology Program and Director of MBA Program at Virginia Tech.

is founder and president of Renaissance Management Consulting, specializing in strategic planning and financial evaluation for new business ventures and for business restructuring. He has over 15 years of management and consulting experience, including Hay Consultants, where he was a principal in the firm's strategy practice and positions in R&D, operations, marketing, finance, and business planning with FMC and Allied Signal. Dr. Gibbs also has over 10 years experience in academia. He was formerly a professor at College of William & Mary where he taught graduate and executive courses on corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions. He has also served on the faculty at Georgetown University, Boston University, and M.I.T. Sloan School. Dr. Gibbs earned a Ph.D. in management from the Sloan School of Management at MIT, an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago, and a BSc in chemical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

Devi R. Gnyawali got his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and is currently an Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the Department of Management, Virginia Tech.

Research: Dr. Gnyawali's research interests include effects of inter-firm networks on firm innovation, competitive actions and response, knowledge acquisition and development, and international strategy. His research also examines how organizations create and use knowledge, and how managers' cognition affects outcomes such as innovation and new product development. Dr. Gnyawali's research has been published in various prestigious journals: Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Management Learning, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Journal of Higher Education, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, Strategy & Leadership, among others. His research has won awards from the Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Society, and National Meetings of the Academy of Management. He has presented papers at various national and international conferences.

Teaching: Dr. Gnyawali’s primary areas of teaching are strategic management, technology management, and international management. Before joining Virginia Tech in 1997, Dr. Gnyawali taught at the University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University. At Virginia Tech, he has taught classes to undergraduate, MBA, EMBA, and Ph.D. students and has received award for Teaching Excellence. He has also taught in a distant learning environment (on-line and televised programs) in the Masters of Information Technology program and part-time MBA program. He also teaches in management and professional development programs. He takes students to Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea in summer. The study abroad program includes visits to several world-class companies such as Toyota, Sony, Canon, Omron, GE, Disney, Boeing, Coca-Cola, ALCOA, Samsung, Hyundai, and POSCO and many cultural and historical sites.

Business and Consulting Experience: Dr. Gnyawali has many years of international experience and has traveled extensively. He has managed business consulting service organizations, and served as a consultant for government and non-government organizations in several countries including Germany, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Malawi, and Nepal. He has helped several organizations to plan and implement entrepreneurship development programs and trained trainers and entrepreneurs worldwide. He has also trained and consulted on various aspects of strategic management.

Professional Service: Dr. Gnyawali served on the Membership Committee of the Academy of Management for five years. He reviews papers for various journals including Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, and Journal of Management Studies. He also reviews papers for national meetings of the Academy of Management and has received Outstanding Reviewer Award. At Virginia Tech, Dr. Gnyawali serves on several committees such as the International Programs Committee, East Asia Group, and Commission on Outreach and International Affairs.

Dr. Gracanin received his Ph.D. in from the University of Louisiana - Lafayette in 1994. He has received a MS in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana - Lafayette, and a MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Zagreb, Croatia. Dr. Gracanin's current research interests include distributed virtual environments, virtual reality and multimedia applications, modeling and simulation. He is the Director of the Distributed Virtual Environments Research Laboratory, an IEEE Senior Member, and a 2004 NASA Summer Faculty Fellow.

Dr. Matheson received the Ph.D. in Management Science, MBA, and BS in Chemistry from the University of Washington. He has also been an engineer and production manager for several electronics and metal finishing companies. His primary research interests are in electronic data interchange, the application of new technologies to education and the use of artificial intelligence to solve manufacturing problems. His most recent research focuses on the economics of Electronic Data Interchange and alternative methods of conducting business to business electronic commerce. He is a Past-President for the Southeastern Chapter of the Decision Sciences Institute and has held many board positions for the organization. He was the Information Systems Specialist for the 1992 National Decision Sciences Institute meeting. He has been a consultant to the National Institute of Justice in the area of drug testing methodology. Dr. Matheson is the author of the book Statistical Quality Control in High Reliability Systems. He has published in IIE Transactions, Operations Research, Decision Sciences, Naval Research Logistics, International Journal of Production Research, and others. Dr. Matheson has received the R. B. Pamplin College of Business Certificate of Teaching Excellence and the Virginia Tech University Certificate of Teaching Excellence. He is a member of DSI.

Dr. Oliva is an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. He is also President and CTO of Sotron Solutions, LLC, a software products and consulting company founded in 1999 focused on integrated network solutions for the personal user, home office, and small office. He has been a management/technology consultant for firms including GE and Booz Allen Hamilton, and served as a technical director for Impact Innovations Group and iQuest Solutions. He specializes in managing high-quality large-scale software development efforts, and his research interests are primarily in the realm of information security and secure computing. He has been teaching accredited graduate-level courses and workshops since 1992, including Image Processing, Statistical Analysis, Software Design and Quality, and Internet Software. He holds an MS in Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech's College of Engineering, a BSE in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania's Moore School, and a BS in Economics (with concentration in Marketing) from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.

Clay is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Computer Science of the College of Engineering and a software consultant currently serving as the lead architect/developer of an enterprise integration project. He has been developing distributed solutions with Java since 1997, including a distributed, heterogeneous epidemiological study system, a web services driven portal, a web-based functional database management tool suite, and several database visualization solutions.  He has held various positions including Sr. Software Engineer, Lead Software Engineer, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead and Sr. Architect.  He has both led development teams and served as technical oversight ("honest broker") for development teams. He has previously taught Software Design and Quality and Internet Software in the MIT program. He is a graduate of the Masters of Information Technology program and has a degree in Mechanical Engineering (with a minor in Psychology) from the Virginia Military Institute. He is a co-author of Professional Java, JDK 5 Edition, Professional Portal Development with Open Source Tools and More Java Pitfalls.

Dr. Tegarden's research interests include the impact of technological change on firm behavior and performance, the role of networks in technology-driven environments, strategy process and strategic planning effectiveness in high velocity environments, the characteristics that enhance or increase survival and performance of new business start-ups in emerging and technology-driven environments, the effectiveness of cognitive mapping in strategic planning processes, and contingency theory as it applies to strategy/environment/technology fit. is the Bradley Professor of Communications in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr.Tranter received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama in 1963, 1964, and 1970, respectively. Immediately before joining the Mobile and Portable Radio Research Group at Virginia Tech as Associate Director, Dr. Tranter was the Schlumberger Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Missouri, Rolla. Professor Tranter is an active researcher in the area of digital communications systems and digital signal processing. His current area of interest is computer-aided design and performance evaluation of communication systems and simulation techniques with applications to wireless cellular systems. He is actively developing strategies for hardware/software co-simulation. In addition, he is performing research on efficient simulation and computer-aided design techniques for wideband CDMA systems based on hidden Markov channel models. He is studying a number of issues including model robustness and convergence rates. The National Science Foundation, the Schlumberger Foundation, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, McDonnell-Douglas, GE Aerospace, LG Electronics, Raytheon, and Batelle Memorial Laboratories have supported his research efforts.
